If you "purchased" it on Steam, then you should usually be able to download it on the Mac as well (assuming the game was not ported to the Mac by a different developer). If you "purchased" the Windows version from Steam, then contact Steam/Valve for support.

Otherwise if you "purchased" it free elsewhere from another legal source, then maybe they had a free give away offer that only applied for a limited time and only applied to the Windows version. Some game stores sell the Windows and Mac versions separately.
